Cap sur les Anglos Normandes

La fois où j’ai indiqué à Jean Marie que je souhaitais partir du coin il m’a répondu : « Ok mais avant de partir, il faudra que tu te rendes à Aurigny »… je lui ai dit oui et on s’est serré la main… et ensuite j’ai compris.

J’ai compris que pour aller à Aurigny il fallait savoir estimer la vitesse de son bateau précisément, qu’il y avait une heure bien particulière pour partir de Dielette et arriver à passer la pointe Quenard avant la renverse mais pas trop avant non plus sinon le courant nous éloigne du port. J’ai compris en somme qu’aller à Aurigny c’était savoir lire la carte des courants, les heures de marée, lire le vent et connaître son bateau. Alors évidement lorsque j’ai tenté la première fois… j’ai loupé Aurigny. Et là j’ai compris que l’ami Jean Marie avait mis sur ma route un exercice de navigation qui ne tolère pas l’approximation, ni sur le cap, ni sur le réglage du bateau, ni sur les conditions pour passer « Le Raz ». Un exercice qu’il fallait passer si je voulais partir d’ici. Car l’oiseau doit savoir quitter le nid, et pour cette première expérience, j’ai appris à battre des ailes, à me lancer, à tenter le vent et la marée, à estimer mes erreurs à les comprendre, et puis à force d’essayer… j’y suis arrivé…

Pour rejoindre Aurigny il faut passer le Raz Blanchard, ce bout de mer qui relie la pointe de la Hague Française à l’île anglo normande la plus au nord. Ce bout de caillou est dans un passage où la mer lorsque le vent est contre le courant monte à vous tailler la croupe, à vous faire balancer d’avant en arrière à croire que le mat va tomber, qu’il vous fait avancer et reculer à sa guise et que les marmites qui apparaissent vous font tournoyer, le safran devient mou sous la poigne, le bateau semble s’immobiliser et tourne sans comprendre ni comment ni pourquoi. A cet endroit la force de l’eau prend le pas sur le vent. Pour aller à Aurigny il faut apprendre l’humilité, que ce que l’on choisit n’est pas toujours suivi des faits, que malgré les prévisions météos et les flèches de courant, le raz il vous laisse passer ou non, c’est à sa guise.

 

Tenter de rejoindre Aurigny était ma première navigation avec le bateau, avant d’y arriver j’ai échoué 3 fois et ces 3 tentatives valent trois fois plus que la fois où j’y suis arrivé. La première j’ai visé trop au nord et pas assez à l’ouest, l’île nous est passée devant sans possibilité de contrer le courant pour rejoindre le port, la deuxième fois, nous avons pris trop ouest et pas assez de nord… la renverse à la pointe Quénard a eu raison de notre vitesse… plus on avance plus la vitesse se réduit, moins on avance, plus le courant s’établit, une fois le tapis roulant dans l’autre sens, il faut s’incliner, prendre sa leçon et s’en retourner. La troisième nous étions trois à bord et nous sommes partis de nuit avec les étoiles, nous étions partis à la bonne heure, le bon cap… mais malgré les efforts de réglages et envoyer le spi, le vent ne voulait pas gonfler suffisamment les voiles, impossible de rejoindre Quenard avant la renverse, nous sommes rentrés…

Alors la quatrième fois, je suis parti seul avec le bateau, il fallait contrer le sort et trouver une autre formule. Dom la veille m’avait dit : « demain on peut aller à Aurigny », nous avons fait le calcul de marée et déterminé une heure de départ. Lui de son côté, moi du mien. Le topo était clair, il fallait trouver soi même l’heure, le cap et sa vitesse en fonction du vent. J’ai acquiescé et lui ai dit que je serai heureux qu’on se retrouve avec nos deux bateaux pour déjeuner ensemble, il a souri et m’a dit : « rendez vous là bas alors ». On est parti chacun sur son navire le lendemain matin, dom était déjà à deux miles lorsque je hissais la grand voile. Nous étions à distance pour se voir mais seul à sa barre, à sa navigation avec le vent, le raz et ses courants. Au passage du raz, le bateau s’est cabré plusieurs fois, des vagues venaient parfois taper l’arrière sans crier gare, et l’éclair d’un instant je me suis demandé ce que je faisais là, seul, sans pilote et sans moyen de lâcher la barre pour faire le point… l’éclair d’un instant, j’ai souri à l’idée et puis je me suis ravisé, cette question n’avait pas de sens, nous étions là, et il fallait bien arriver quelque part… alors on a continué à se faire malmener gentiment, ma carte s’est déchirée en deux lorsque je tentais de la déplier dans le cockpit, alors j’ai sorti le compas de relèvement et j’ai pu fixer deux droites pour savoir que nous étions bien là au bon moment. Et puis la pointe Quenard est apparu, nous avons paré les cailloux sur babord en abattant peu à peu pour enrouler le cap. Le vent était nord est et j’ai dû mettre les voiles en ciseaux pour passer l’entrée du port. Une fois à l’abri, j’ai remis le moteur en marche… J’étais fatigué, ravi et émerveillé…nous étions arrivés ! A cette destination qui m’avait donné des mots de têtes, des doutes, des craintes et des efforts. J’ai goûté le plaisir de trouver ma maison dans un autre décor. Dom sur Slan était au coffre à deux longueurs et m’attendait gentiment. A présent, je touchais enfin ce bout de terre et avec lui remportais mon passeport pour gagner d’autres îles, d’autres ports…
